Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that any opposition to Gwadar Port is equivalent to enmity with Pakistan. He emphasized that those involved in violence are not only enemies of the people of Balochistan but also of the entire nation.
Addressing a cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister expressed concern over the recent conflict in Gaza. He highlighted that after massive destruction and bloodshed, a temporary ceasefire of 42 days has been achieved. “We pray that this temporary ceasefire turns into a permanent one. Over 50,000 Palestinians have been martyred, including women, children, doctors, engineers, and youth. Thousands have been imprisoned, and entire cities have been devastated,” he said.
The Prime Minister acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in raising its voice for a ceasefire in Gaza and sending aid despite challenges. He assured that Pakistan would contribute to Gaza’s reconstruction as much as possible.
Shehbaz Sharif announced that the Gwadar International Airport has officially started operations. Terming it a significant milestone, he revealed that the $230 million project was completed with the assistance of China. “This airport is one of the largest in Pakistan, and if utilized for business purposes, it will greatly benefit the economy of Balochistan and Pakistan,” he noted.
The Prime Minister criticized those opposing Gwadar Port, stating, “Those indulging in violence must understand that they are not only harming the people of Balochistan but are also acting against Pakistan’s interests. Gwadar Port is a critical asset, especially since Karachi’s ports are already under immense pressure.”
He expressed gratitude to China for its generous support in completing the airport, urging the nation to value such contributions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the World Bank’s decision to initiate a long-term partnership with Pakistan, pledging $20 billion in investments across various sectors over the next decade. “Although this is a loan, it is a welcome development,” he remarked.
He also shared positive developments in the IT sector, announcing record-high monthly IT exports of $348 million in December. “Our IT exports are steadily increasing, and further growth will bring immense benefits to Pakistan,” he said.
Shehbaz Sharif pointed out that Pakistan’s overall exports have risen compared to the previous year, and key indicators show promising signs for the economy. He urged continued hard work to sustain these improvements.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the sacrifices made in combating terrorism, stating that the entire nation could never repay the debt of those who laid down their lives for peace. “These sacrifices have ensured the safety of countless lives, and there can be no greater act of valor than this,” he said.
Shehbaz Sharif also expressed hope for a peaceful and smooth Hajj season for Pakistani pilgrims this year, ensuring government efforts to make the pilgrimage comfortable.
The Prime Minister concluded by urging collective efforts to uphold peace, progress, and stability in the country.
